St. Patty's Day

We had our traditional green breakfast for St. Patty's Day today. I modified it slightly this year because I seem to be the only one that thinks eating green bacon and green eggs is funny. Jared can hardly choke it down some years. This year, I stuck with simply green pancakes and green milk.
Obviously Jonathon takes after his daddy because the rest of the day he kept asking for "white" milk in his sippy cup.

It's not like it TASTES different! he he he!

Trading in Binks for Mr. Sharky

Anyone who has spent very much time around Jonathon knows that his pacifier, "Binks," is a prized possession, a comfort, a sedative, and a good friend. He sleeps with it for naps and bedtime, and wants it whenever he is sad, tired, injured, has his feelings hurt, etc. As you can imagine, his visit to the dentist this past week was a tough one when the dentist told him that the binky was making his teeth "sad" and he needed to get rid of it. We have wanted to get rid of it for some time now, and was very glad to have someone besides Jared or I tell him that it was time to say goodbye.

We went to the Living Planet Aquarium that very afternoon and he traded all of his binky's in for a shark puppet. That's right, he handed a whole fistful of them to the poor cashier (that's right, we had a bunch because it was so traumatic if we couldn't find one when it was time to go to sleep). Since they were getting thrown away at the store, he had no way to try to fish them out of a garbage can at home later on. We had hoped he could then use his new stuffed sharky to snuggle when he was tired or sad but this has not been the case. Oh well, at least he liked it enough at the store to willingly and happily give all his binky's away in order to have the shark. And he does enjoy playing and biting us with his new shark.

Each day he asks for his binky less and less. He still prefers to have us lay by him until he is asleep at night since he doesn't have a binky but he is being brave. We have had many opportunities to talk through how hard it is that he doesn't have a binky anymore (each time he asks for it) and sometimes we have to do hard things when they are good for us. He does suprisingly well with this logic, or at least realizes that he's not getting anywhere asking for it, so he drops the subject after a minute.
