Hardware Ranch

We took a little trip up north to visit Joseph, Ellen and Halle in Logan on Friday.

We thought it would be fun to take the kids up to Hardware Ranch to see all of the elk. Jonathon loves seeing pictures of elk, seeing elk up at Yellowstone, pretending to be an elk with his hands up by his head as antlers, etc. Unfortuntately, we couldn't have picked a worse day to visit the elk. It was RAINING down in Logan, but we figured by the time we got up into the mountains in Hyrum, UT that it would have turned to snow. That, however, was not the case. By the time we got there, it was raining and sleeting so hard that it was all we could do to hustle from the car to the Visitors Center as fast as we could.

The kids didn't know the difference, though. They still got to see a full size elk (and pet it) that was stuffed, pet a bunch of other animal pelts, and make footprints in the sand with an elk hoof (YUCK!).
They could also see the herds of elk a little ways off through the huge windows. All in all, we had fun spending the day with family and having a little adventure while we were at it. We're just thankful that we aren't the pioneers that had to travel in this kind of weather for days or weeks. Our little trek up one small hill was enough for us!
